God's Love Letter #54

When the time came for God the Son to finish His work on the earth, God the Father’s great plan for the earth moved on. From the beginning of the world, His plan was to give His Son’s life to pay for the sins of the world. It was time for Jesus to be crucified. The kind of death Jesus would suffer had been described 700 years earlier by the prophet Isaiah.

As God showed Isaiah what would happen in the future, Isaiah wrote, “It was our weaknesses He carried; it was our sorrows that weighed Him down. And we thought His troubles were a punishment from God for His own sins. But He was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped, and we were healed. All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet God laid on Him the guilt and sins of us all.”

Hundreds of years later, the killing of Jesus happened, just outside of Jerusalem. One of His followers, who was there and saw what happened, wrote this, “Two others, both criminals, were led out to be executed with Jesus. Finally, they came to a place called ‘The Skull.’ All three were crucified there—Jesus on the center cross, and the two criminals on either side.”

That was a sad, sad day for the followers of Jesus. They could not understand why this should happen. However, Jesus had told them that He would not remain in the grave. On the third day after His burial, He would rise from being dead.

Nothing else could have shown the world how much God loves us more than giving His Own Son as a sacrifice for our bad actions and selfish way of living. God is aware that this kind of love will cause people to turn from their wicked way of living and come to Him, asking for forgiveness and committing themselves to following Him.
