God's Love Letter #15

The Bible does not tell us everything that has happened in the history of the world. It does tell us some of the very important things that God has taught us. Many times, He does His teaching through the things that people have done. Those people are our family members who lived on the earth before we were born. Those things are a part of our history.

You will remember that God made a promise to one of our family members named Abraham. He believed in God with all of his heart. This made God very happy. One day God spoke to Abraham and told him that the people in his family would increase in number. There would be as many of them as the grains of sand on the seashore. But Abraham and his wife, Sarah, had no children. Sarah was unable to have a child.

God made a promise to Abraham in a special way. He sent an angel to speak to Abraham. God’s angel told Abraham that within the next year, he and Sarah would have a child. Abraham believed God. Abraham was 99 years old, and his wife was 10 years younger.

God knew the plan He had for Abraham and Sarah. He has all power and is able to do whatever He plans to do. A year later, when Abraham was 100 years old, and Sarah was 90 years old, a son was born to them. They named him Isaac.

God explained to them that His promise to Abraham would continue to be fulfilled through Isaac. God would continue to build His great nation of believers through Isaac’s descendants. The one who would be a great blessing to all the nations of the world would be born as one of Isaac’s descendants.

Again, the Bible gives us a window into the world’s history. It records the names of people who were born as descendants of Abraham. God gave the world His Son, Jesus Christ, through the descendants of Abraham. Jesus died to pay for the sins of all people who have ever lived on the earth. This was God’s plan, and He made it happen.
