God's Love Letter #35

Moses told us about prophets when he was living on the earth. Just before he died, Moses called the Hebrews together and said to them, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen. You shall listen to Him.” This came true when Jesus Christ was born among the Hebrew people.

God raised up other prophets for special work to do. One of these was a man named Isaiah. God told Isaiah about the coming of Jesus. Isaiah told the Hebrews that a baby boy would be born among the Hebrews. He will be the head of God’s government, he said. He will be known by several names: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace. He will be God’s chosen Ruler forever.

Even though Isaiah lived several hundred years before Jesus Christ was born as a baby on the earth, he was told by God that this would happen. Isaiah also told the world that God would give us a special sign, so that everyone would know that this is God working out the plan He has had from the beginning of the world. Isaiah said, “The Lord Himself will give you a sign. A virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a boy. And she will give Him the name Immanuel, which means God with us.”

Many prophets were raised up by the one true God to tell of the coming of Jesus Christ, God’s Son. One of them, Micah, was told by God that Jesus would be born in a small village named Bethlehem. Micah lived on the earth about 700 years before Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem.

God chose many people to prepare the world for the coming of Jesus Christ, His Son. He chose a Hebrew virgin girl as the mother for His Son. God Himself is the Father of His Son. He chose a man named John the Baptist to introduce Jesus to the world when Jesus began His work on the earth.
